We are so happy that we stumbled on El Erizo de Mau for dinner – it’s a bit off the main boardwalk, but absolutely worth the walk. The service was perfect, the cocktails were inventive, and the food was incredible. Of course mezcal and tequila…based cocktails are the highlight here, and none of them disappointed. We also sampled some of the soups and taco dishes, which were great. The restaurant is cash only. We’ll definitely be back!More

I sought out El Erizo de Mau based on other TA reviews, because I’m most interested in eateries with a little bit of a twist. I really enjoyed my meals here! Though I’m not a vegan, I was pleasantly surprised to find vegan options as…part of the regular menu. The flavors and ingredients are all fresh and creative. The blended margaritas are very inspired and delicious. The folks who work there are really nice and explained everything very well, and with great enthusiasm. One of my new, favorite places for sure!More

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at this small, charming restaurant. The menu changes depending on availability. There were probably 8 or 10 appetizers all priced at 50 pesos and about the same number of entrees, all at 150 pesos, very reasonable for large portions. I…had the fish tacos, made with shark, very fresh and delicious, the best fish tacos I ever had. My husband had a pork dish served with a mango salsa and garlic mashed potatoes that he thoroughly enjoyed. We were offered a complimentary soup that was like a warm gazpacho to start-really good, and a complimentary after dinner drink. Give this restaurant a try for some very innovative cooking. The owner, Hector, was a great host and interesting to talk to.More

We live across the street from this restaurant and never tried it We tried it and it was well worth it with some reservations. The food here and s fantastic when they are on the ball. My husband ordered the chicken and I had the…fish in banana leaves. Unfortunately, the chicken came out raw The fish was perfect. They did take the chicken back and when we got the replacement chicken it too was perfect. For dessert we had the zapote mousse. This was perfect for ending our experience here. I will definitely come back when we are back in town.More

Just spent 10 days in PV and so happy our friend from our building told us to try the new place close by. El Erizo de Mau was amazing overall. We loved it so much we went twice during our trip and returned last night…yet again just for cocktails. The service is warm and friendly in a very organic way. Hector is the best. He really took his time to explain the menu to us and concepts on our first visit. Such a uniqueness about the items on the menu offered and how they are prepared. Everything we had on both visits was amazing. They started us with a nice shrimp cocktail on the house and brought us out drinks we ordered which were amazing. The spice margarita is very good for those that like a kick. Also the pineapple margarita is very refreshing and truly delish. The mains are fantastic – BBQ Ribs, fish wrapped in banana leaf, and shark tacos to name a few. Yum yum. Do yourselves a favor and stop into this cute little new place and enjoy all they have to offer. You will not be disappointed.More

We dined at El Erizo. Delicious! I particularly liked the Black Shrimp Tostada. Perfectly cooked shrimp, delicate flavors and I think a bit of chipotle on top that is almost fruit-like. The combinations of flavors are different than anything we’ve experienced before. It’s Mexican cuisine…to be sure but with a very different take. Both of us ordered different items and with each arrival we were trading samples. So good, so different. Mauricio is the chef and came to the table and explained his food with great joy. Hector serves but also shares a delightful and enthusiastic energy that makes us return just to see him. You can’t go wrong. It’s hidden across from PVRPV and worth a visit. Saludos Chicos! We were looking for a place to eat our first night in Puerto Vallarta and El Erizo de Mau was recommended to us by a local. We were so happy we went. Our waiter, Hector, was wonderful and explained to us how each dish was…prepared. We got the black shrimp tostada, shredded beef tostada, and stuffed pepper taco to start, all of which were excellent, but the beef tostada was the favorite. For the main course, we had the three fish tacos (made with sting ray meat), tuna with mole, and chicken jocoque. All excellent. Everything they make is produced locally. The drinks were even better. The guayaba margarita was delicious. Their house drink, El Erizo, was also fantastic. The chef/owner came out to talk to us, which made the experience very special. Very nice people there all around. We tried three different desserts, but the sweet chayote was very good and unique. It’s a local fruit that once prepared has a similar taste and texture to apples. We plan on coming back before our trip is over.More

We stumbled on this place while walking around old town looking for a drink. Small place with a small menu which changes almost daily. Delicious and creative offerings and attentive service. Try the zucchini soup if it’s being offered!

What a lovely new cafe/bistro. Lots of choices for vegetarians and mainstream diners. The menu is limited because they change the menu daily. The service is lovely, enthusiastic. The quality and preparation of the food was high quality. They are only 4 months old as…of this writing but they are building an inviting neighborhood place at Pino Suarez around the corner from Page in the Sun. They are only closed on Wednesdays. Hours 5-12. Address: 232 Pino Suarez in Puerto Vallarta. How refreshing to not see the same menu again and again.More

Walked by one morning and decided to come back for dinner that night. Went back every week. Brought 4 friends one evening and we ordered every one of the appetizers and every main dish which we shared around the table, even the deserts. Food is…a different variety of Mexican fare, the owner and chef with a second chef prepare a different approach to what you might be used to in Mexico. Delicious, flavourful and Hector and his colleagues will take good care of you. Not to be missed. Closed on Wednesday I believeMore

This wonderful restaurant is located across from The Park condominiums. We stepped up to the entrance to view the menu and were instantly greeted by a waiter who described a number of menu items, as we listened a restaurant guest jumped out of his chair…and said eat here you won’t be disappointed! They were both spot on! The margaritas were make with care from fresh mangoes and pineapple, so delicious and not overly sweetened. My husband had the shredded beef tostada, the meat was perfectly marinated and tender. Sting Ray tacos are in the menu here, totally recommend! We’ve never seen them on a menu before, so my daughter ordered them, they tasted like a cross between crab and fish. She enjoyed them and was fun to try something new. I ordered the Chicken Jocoques which was tender chunks of white and dark meat that tasted like it was slow roasted and seasoned to perfection. It was accompanied by a wedge of sweet corn cake and all topped with a jocoques sauce- white, creamy, slightly acidic. It was the best dish we’ve had in the last 10 days we’ve been in PV! It was plate licking worthy! The friendliness and attentiveness of the waiter was appreciated, very pleasant and funny. The chef came to the table afterwards, you can tell he is passionate about delicious regional cuisine. I’m just wish we had discovered El Erizo sooner, as we leave on Monday.More

Had dinner two nights ago at El Erizo de Mau located near the parque Lázaro Cárdenas. They’ve only been open a couple months, and they are so accommodating to vegans! We had a terrific green creamy soup (zucchini and celery as main ingredients) and the…skewers containing eggplant, artichoke, zucchini and avocado were marinated in something delicious and were excellent. (Have you ever had grilled avocado? If not get yourself to El Erizo, pronto!) There were also vegan salads and desserts. My dinner companion was also happy with her shrimp skewers. Give it a try! I will definitely go back.More

Superb service by Hector! Interesting, lovely , tasty food – a perfect dinner! Price was right. Good choices. Not too much food with my skewered entre. We could not have felt more welcome and accomodated. It is open to the street which was pleasant as…this street is not heavily traveled. The decore is simple yet tasteful and inviting.More
