Visited this restaurant on Basilio Badillo as well as the one on the Malecon several times and always enjoyed the visit. However this past visit was a total disappointment. We were seated indoors and the place was very noisy. Our appetizers came quickly but had…to wait 45 minutes for our main course. The spaghetti bolognese I ordered were lukewarm. One of my friends ordered chicken cacciatore; the chicken was warm but the mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables that came with it were cold. Tried to flag a waiter to no avail and finally gave up. My friend ate the chicken but the vegetables and the mashed potatoes were left untouched. When the waiter came to pick up the dishes I mentioned the cold vegetables and potatoes but he made no apologies: his only statement was: you should have told me and I would have returned them to the cook. The only problem: we could not get his attention when we needed him! Obviously the restaurant is more interested in filling all the empty tables than providing proper service and ensuring that food is served at the proper temperature. Needless to say, we will not be going back.More

We came after being disappointed that our planned restaurant was closed on Sundays, but on a recommendation from fellow hotel guests a couple of days ago. Had about a ten-minute wait at 7:30 PM. Fairly large wine list. One of us enjoyed the house Merlot…by the glass. Had the linguine with mini zucchini and shrimp in a white wine sauce and my partner had handmade cannelloni. They were served with chewy bread which we ate with a dash of balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Nice. The linguine had a gorgeous sauce and plenty of tiny, perfectly cooked half-coins of zucchini and many tasty shrimp. The cannelloni had a fresh-looking tomato sauce. Both were delicious. For dessert we shared tiramisu which we agreed was excellent. Attentive, un-self-conscious, and friendly service. Well worth the money spent and definitely would go again.More

First visit of the season. There’s a new chef who comes from Italy. He greets you and tells you about the specials. Saturday night there was a pasta with clams and shrimp and a veal scaloppini with mushrooms. Both were delicious. Service is as usual…friendly and attentive. Glad to be see they have not changed. Wine prices are reasonable too.More

Wow, wow, wow! I LOVE Italian food and this reminded me of a High end Italian Restaurant in Time Square New York, “Carmine’s!” I hate to say, I think it was better than Carmines. Their Gluten free Alfredo pasta was bomb! But their tiramisu was…AMAZING! It was fresh and the best I’ve ever tried. And I have been to most Italian restaurants in San Diego (I live here) and LA. Their prices are so affordable, and it was just a great experience.More

It was simply an average dinner – nothing special. We ordered the homemade tortellini and the gnocchi – the pasta itself was nice but the sauces were simply ok. My father had a pizza and he was not wowed with it either. The ambiance felt…touristy and sterile – not a lot of charm. We’ll pass on a return.More

Perfect location in Zona Romantica. Everything we’ve had on the menu was delicious. Salads, fried fish combo, pizza, chicken & pasta dishes ! Martini’s ! Cannot beat the prices either. Tony is a great bartender/server. We’ve only sat at the bar (the best) and have…dined here at least 6x in the last year. The bar is a great place to meet others from all over. A must when visiting Zona Romantica.More

Food is very average at best. The noise is disgusting, they bang pots and pans together to celebrate a customers birthday, ruins your dinner, can’t even talk. I’ll never return, go to some other Italian restaurant in Zona Romantica, there are a ton of great…restaurants. Service is ok. If you want a good dinner in a positive environment, go elsewhere!!!More

2 years ago this was actually delicious food. Last night was horrible. The meat was very cheap quality and tasted like chili not bolognese sauce. I asked 3 times for water. 2 times for more wine. Our waiter only had 4 tables. He acted completely…overwhelmed. I had to ask for more napkins and the check twice. Will not return and will not recommendMore

We have been before (when it first opened) but this time good was just ok. Everything was luke warm. Fettuccine Alfredo was actually cold. Sent it back and think they just microwaved it. The garbage smell from the opposite street corner was ripe and wafted…through the patio. Not pleasant. Constantly had to tell waiter to pull his mask up over his nose.More

Excellent restaurant. Most of the staff were great. However, there was an older waiter who seemed to act like he was in charge. We had ordered ice with drinks and it did not come. We tried numerous times to get his attention and he totally…ignored us. We got another waiters attention easily and he tried to bring ice and got chased off by the old waiter. The young waiter did end up bringing our meals and was again chased off by the old waiter. We took the young waiter aside and tipped him very well. The old waiter did bring the bill and was not impressed with his tip. We left him more than was deserved for the service received from him. If I see him in that restaurant I will leave or request not to be seated in his area. Hostess was great and accommodating as well. Food was also very good as always. I would assume the other Dolce Vita restaurants in PV are affiliated as the menus are the same. Food is great and service is generally great. Generally both food and service would be 5 star. The one waiter I would be hard pressed to give him 1/2 star. He is definitely a stain in a very good restaurant.More

Atmosphere is lively… food not so much. Ordered pizza and parmesan chicken. Pizza came out cold and we sent it back and then the waiter touched it to test the temp and then brought back the reheated pizza he touched. So non-hygienic so we sent…it back again. We were shocked at the unsanitary practices from the waiter. The chicken parmesan was tasteless and the tomato sauce served on the side was super watery. I asked for spaghetti as a side instead of the potatoes for an extra charge which is fine but the tomato sauce on the spaghetti only tasted like reheated tomatoes with a basil leaf thrown in it. They comped the parmesan chicken but the fresh pizza took a very long time to come back so we munched on a few pieces and then asked for the rest to take home as we sat there for so long. We will never come back to this restaurant with the poor food quality and sub-standard service.More

We visited here for the second time while visiting PV and again it was a wonderful experience. Great service, well spaced out tables and wonderful food. My veggies were a tad undercooked but overall it was again, outstanding.

This is my third bad experience at this restaurant. When it opened I really enjoyed ordering the lasagna. Recently, the lasagna I was served was not even warm. The bread used to be fresh and now they serve a half toasted version. Another visit, The…pizza crust was mealy and flaky. And a couple nights ago the worst one was, sour Alfredo sauce. The young man who was served it was trying to be nice and eating it without complaint. Someone at the table didn’t think it looked right and tasted it and immediately spit it out.More

We went in to order a pizza. We have been there before and last time the pizza was good but the Hawaiian pizza had one piece of pineapple per slice. Today we told the waiter and he told us that never happened and they make…the best pizza. We weren’t going to argue so we asked for extra pinepple. Our pizza came with so much pineapple that it was inedible. I thought this was extremely insulting. When we told the waiter he shrugged his shoulders. Never will I darken their doorway again.More
